Q. I am trying to find a news aggregator or RSS feed reader that I can put in one or more specific keywords and have articles forwarded to my email address. Is there any software that can do this? I would be interested in either freeware or one that needed a license.

Is there an offline news aggregator for Blackberry?
Q. I want a program that runs on my PC and will download all my RSS feeds. Then, when I sync my Blackberry to my desktop, it will transfer those RSS feeds over to the Blackberry. Please do not respond by telling me I should get a data plan; I don't want a data plan. I want to be able to sync my phone once or twice a day and get updated news stories at that time.

What does it mean to be a loan aggregator?
Q. What does it mean to be a loan aggregator?
Asked by MJW - Wed Oct 11 14:26:58 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. That is a firm that will for a fee take all of your loans and roll them into one credit line that you then pay off in one payment stream, instead of many. These days many loan aggregators are interested in getting customers to roll their credit card debt into home equity lines of credit. This does lower your monthly payments, but it doesn't necessarily lower your overall credit obligation. In other words, a lower payment over a longer period may mean you can pay less per month, but it also means you usually have to pay a lot more back over the long run, which is not necessarily a good deal.

A. From Google's website: Google News gathers stories from more than 4,500 English-language news sources worldwide, and automatically arranges them to present the most relevant news first. Topics are updated every 15 minutes, so you're likely to see new stories each time you check the page. Possible news sources

Why did the online buyer aggregators fail?
Q. In 2000, when the dotcom craze was still ongoing, I purchased a PalmPilot online, for a price that was unbeatable on the market at that time. I don't remember the name of the site, but I do remember the concept: the company was aggregating buyers for pre-selected products. The more people committed to buying a certain item, the lower the price went. As for my Palm V, the site has registered the maximum number of 1000 committed buyers in a matter of two days or so. But then the problems started. The company sent me an e-mail saying that it hasn't received the shipment of Palms yet and asked me to wait. Eventually I did receive my Palm. But the company went out of business pretty soon afterwards and I have never seen the same idea been… [cont.]

A. I remember reading an article somewhere, here is what I recollect... (1) I think they struggled to get people to commit to a purchase without knowing the final prices. So they didn't prove incredibly popular, despite being an exciting idea. (2) The other issue was that for the kind of items that did create interest, sellers were selling anyway and had no desire to offer a better price.

A. Well It seems that a lot of people are having problems with that. It is still in beta testing though, hopefully they will figure it out soon you poor country black person. It is surly not due to discrimination. A Negro is just as capable as a Caucasian when it comes to operating software correctly. So I'm sure it's not racial. Though I would suspect it is something their programmers have done.

RSS aggregator development queries?
Q. hi there... i have few queries in developing web based RSS aggregators. I have developed a RSS aggregator which fetches news from various sites. when i refresh it i want to see only the latest updated feeds only and not the earlier ones. Can someone help me out. chat2ram@hotmail.com
Asked by chat2ram - Mon Oct 9 13:12:38 2006 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You either need to keep track of was previously seen (like with a cookie if you have user accounts) or a predefined variable of how long you want to see the news (like, only things updated in the last hour, 5 hours, day, and so on) If you go with the cookie, then you could simply record what time the user logged out, and use that as your basis for determining which articles to get. Of course, this assumes that they read all the articles that were there last time they loaded the page. Another way is to keep a framed database (by this I mean like a database of links to all articles posted in the last 24 hours, or some other block of time) and then use a boolean value to say if that particular article was viewed or not. If it was viewed,… [cont.]

British people: where do you go for your election polling data?
Q. Hallo. If you are keenly following the cut and thrust of the UK election campaign, what sites do you visit to look at polling data? Is there a poll aggregator, along the lines of realclearpolitics? Which polls do you consider to be the most/least accurate/biased? Thankee.

A. We are lucky here with a wider mix of media, just as many socialist to capitalist news outlets. So whatever polling data you want to read you can find at the local newspaper stand. Ask some more questions and I will give you more details
